Revised and completely updated for the 2008 National Electric Code, this small manual continues its 75-year history of demonstrating how to install safe, convenient, and economical wiring. Encouraging readers to tackle jobs small and large, the guide covers everything from repairing a table lamp to wiring a whole house. After introducing the basics—standards, codes, safety practices, and an overview of how electricity is measured and delivered—chapters show how to design a layout for lights, switches, and receptacles; run a line from a utility pole; install wires, circuits, and grounds; and handle special projects such as replacing old wiring and wiring detached garages and accessory buildings.

Customer Rating: Summary: Wouldn't be without it Comment: This book (or its previous editions) has been invaluable to this do-it-yourself owner of four different homes over the years. With the book in one hand and tools in the other I have been able to rewire much of two older homes, newly wire finished basements in two others and completely rewire a remodelled kitchen (all up to the current code of the time). The material is well organized and presented in language understandable to the non-professional.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very good reference book Comment: In my circumstances I wouldn't be without this book. I'm doing some electrical wiring upgrades and repairs in my home. This book is a Godsend as I'm not all that knowledgeable about the subject. However, I just look up the subject in this book and it gives me both an illustration and a written explanation on how to accomplish a task. I compare the work required with my skill level and decided whether I can do the work or not before I tear into a wall, open a wiring box, or disconnect any wires. If it appears the task is beyond me, I don't do it myself. This little book, accompanied by the most recent code book, has allowed me to do some things I couldn't have figured out on my own. It also discusses essential safety and wiring techniques. I'd recommend this book to anyone who is planning on doing his or her own standard wiring. You'll know whether or not you're up to the job and if not, you can call an electrician. In the long run, it'll probably save some hard earned cash, a few hours of blown fuses, darkness, or worse, a serious accident or fire. Word to the wise; buy it before you try it!
