Customer Rating: Summary: Confusing instructions, unit good when it gets going. Comment: At first I thought I received a dead unit. I plugged it in overnight and in the morning, no buttons worked. Then I held in the little R button and it powered up. After putting in settings, putting on Auto, and plugging in, no power. I pushed the On button then back to Auto and that started it up. It seems to be working fine now. The instructions don't mention these issues, especially the plugging in and starting up. I'm sure many people have returned this item as dead - I almost did. This has the features I was looking for so I'm glad it works, however, it really needs clearer instructions. But the reason they're really great is that they're perfectly silent! Many of the traditional timers start to hum after being plugged in a while. This never happens with these. These instructions should be better to help with this DOA issue. Just press the reset button if you experience this problem. I plugged it in overnight thinking it might need to charge - with no change. I tried all the normal buttons on it (including the reset (RST) button) and was ready to return it. I finally used a pen to hold down the "R" button for a few seconds and the LCD screen finally turned on. It has been working flawlessly since then (1 month ago).
It came with instructions, but I didn't see this mentioned anywhere in the instructions. If it wasn't for this initial problem I would give it 5 stars. My unit would not transmit power to the outlet even when I used the manual override.
Even more aggravating, the packaging suggests it was a returned item. You'd think they would make sure it worked before reselling it....
